B.C. to give $300K in Typhoon Haiyan relief aid

Government will match up to $300K in donations to Red Cross

 The government of B.C. is promising $300,000 for Typhoon Haiyan relief aid in the Philippines.
Premier Christy Clark says the provincial government will match public monetary donations to the Canadian Red Cross given before Dec. 9, up to $300,000.

"So many British Columbians have roots in the Philippines – family or friends the storm has left homeless, missing or waiting to be rescued," said Clark in a statement issued this morning.
There are about 100,000 Filipino-Canadians living in B.C, according to the statement.
B.C.'s Minister Responsible for the Asia Pacific Strategy and Multiculturalism Teresa Wat says the money will be used to help the Red Cross distribute food, blankets, first aid and hygiene kits to people displaced by the typhoon.
Donations can be made at any B.C. Liquor Store locations, or online.
The death toll following Typhoon Haiyan, which made landfall in the central Philippines on Nov. 7, is 2,357. It's estimated that more than half a million people have been displaced from their homes.
The federal government has dedicated $5 million in aid, and is considering sending additional military resources to assist in the relief effort.
